Cherimoya - Chirimoya

Onderzoeksoutput: Hoofdstuk in Boek/Rapport/CongresprocedureHoofdstukpeer review

The semi-deciduous fruit tree cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill.) is likely the most palatable of all Annona species, including the more globally grown soursop (Annona muricata) and sugar apple (Annona squamosa). Cherimoya is often referred to as the “queen of subtropical fruits”1. Despite this praised flavor and acclaimed market potential, commercial cherimoya cultivation at the global level is still limited as cherimoya fruits have, so far, failed to enter the global subtropical fruit commodity market. They are however a much-appreciated fruit species in the Andean countries as well as in Spain, home of the largest area of commercial cherimoya plantations.
