Ruimterapport Vlaanderen (RURA) hoofdstuk 8: ruimte voor open ruimte

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingContribution to scientific report

A liveable and resilient society needs open space. The open space is home to a variety of activities: agriculture, energy, etc. It also provides important services such as water management, food supply and recreation. A certain scale is needed for open space to provide this diverse range of services. Nevertheless, hardening and fragmentation is still increasing in Flanders. What evolutions do we expect? Even today we are still cutting greenfields for development, and we see the traditional boundaries between town and country, between open and built-up space, fading further. As a result, the pressure on the natural functions of the open space continues to grow. A different spatial policy is therefore required.
