It's best not to increase the current land take any more. Space for economics is a
important need, but how do we design that space for economic activities within
the current land take? In recent years we have seen publications with design initiatives
and design research for economic activities (Labo XX, Re:Work, Leiedal
Chameleon,...), each with its own objective and finality. In addition, the Department
Environment in 2017 and in 2018 collaborated twice with the Brussels-Capital Region
Region and with the Sheffield University School of Architecture on compaction in the
economic fabric.
This paper draws on this rich material and draws on it to design strategies for economic development.
