The complex project De Nieuwe Rand should realize the eastern part of the Antwerp port route. This will improve the accessibility of the port of Antwerp and divert through traffic around the city as much as possible. Among other things, the project is investigating how the A12 and the E313
can function better, but also whether and how the construction of a new underground road between the E313 in Wommelgem and the E19/A12 in Ekeren (A102) and a new road in Stabroek (Nx) can contribute to improved mobility. Besides a solution to the traffic bottleneck, De Nieuwe Rand is also looking for ways to strengthen the public transport, cycling and walking networks, make the region more climate-friendly and improve the quality of life by creating a climate belt.
