Research output: Book/ReportBookpeer-review

This volume represents the final volume of the family Labiatae for the Flore d’Afrique centrale (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi). It deals with subfamily Nepetoideae (212 species, 5 subspecies, 17 varieties) and subfamily Tectonoideae (1 species). An addendum to the previously published subfamily Lamioideae is also included. The Upper Katanga region in south-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo is exceptionally rich in species of subfamily Nepetoideae and no less than forty-six species (i.e. 21%) are endemic to the region covered by the Flore d’Afrique centrale. Within this region, Coleus is by far the largest genus (89 species), followed by Haumaniastrum (27 species), which has its centre of diversity in Upper Katanga, and Ocimum (25 species). All genera and species come with a morphological description, synonyms, data on distribution, habitat, conservation information, vernacular names and uses, as well as additional bibliography, taxonomic notes and the citation of representative herbarium specimens. User-friendly keys and a total of 115 line drawings, nine colour illustrations and 94 colour photographs support the identification process.
