A new species of Coffea (Rubiaceae) from central Africa, with notes on tentative other taxa

Research output: Contribution to journalA2: International peer reviewed article (not A1-type)peer-review

A new species discovered during a revision of the west and central African material of the genus is described. Coffea dactylifera Robbr. and Stoffelen from the Central Forest District in Congo-Kinshasa has cave-domatia of which many have the opening elongated into a narrow, finger-like tubule which is recurved towards the midnerve. This type of domatia is unique, not only in Coffea or the Rubiaceae, but even in the angiosperms as a whole. Three other tentative novelties were delimited during the same revision but sufficient material is lacking for formal description; these are shortly discussed.
